Ranges work well when chapters have different lengths. Separate groups with commas: 1-3, 4-8 creates two documents. An open-ended range such as 9- includes the rest of the file. Every N pages suits repeated forms or batches. Each page creates a separate PDF for every page, which can produce many downloads.
Use the page position in the PDF, starting with 1. A printed chapter number can differ from that position when the document includes a cover or unnumbered introduction. Open the results to confirm the boundaries. Splitting copies pages rather than rendering images, but interactive document features should still be checked.
