Fill standard PDF text fields, checkboxes and selection fields

Complete a standard application form

An application PDF contains a name field, a consent checkbox and a country dropdown; the recipient also wants a non-interactive final copy. Fill the detected controls, save and reopen to check long names and selected values. Keep that editable copy, then use Flatten PDF only after the values display correctly.

✓ Open the saved form in another reader and check long answers, checkbox states and selections. Fields remain editable; flatten only after confirming their values.

Read-only fields cannot be changed; XFA and certificate signatures are not supported.

Frequently asked questions

The details, when you need them.

Can I fill a scanned paper form?

Use Edit PDF to place text over a scan. This tool needs actual PDF form fields.

Will the fields stay editable?

Yes. Use Flatten PDF afterward if you need a non-interactive copy.

Work with standard form controls

The tool supports common AcroForm text, checkbox, dropdown, list and radio fields. Read-only fields are shown as disabled. It does not create certificate signatures, edit dynamic XFA forms or support every custom font. A flat scanned form has no fields to fill; use Edit PDF to add visible text instead.

Review the completed document

Field appearances can vary between PDF readers. Open the saved file and check long answers, selection fields and non-Latin text. Fields remain editable after saving. If the recipient needs a non-interactive copy, use Flatten PDF after verifying the values, and retain an editable source for corrections.

Check the saved result

Open the saved form in another reader and check long answers, checkbox states and selections. Fields remain editable; flatten only after confirming their values.

Standard AcroForms only

Scanned flat pages have no fillable controls. Some custom fonts and dynamic XFA forms are unsupported.

No fields are available to fill

The file may be a scan or an unsupported form type. Use Edit PDF for a flat page, or obtain a standard AcroForm version.
