Replace a stale client name in properties

A reusable report still displays an old client name in document properties. Replace title and author and inspect the final properties. Set the report title and author explicitly, clear creator/producer only if needed, and inspect visible headers separately.

✓ Check title, author and subject in a PDF reader, then separately inspect attachments and visible pages.

Options after selecting a file

Document properties

Set title, author, subject and comma-separated keywords.

These identify the PDF in compatible readers but do not edit page text or improve webpage rankings.

Clear creator and producer

Enable the checkbox to clear those two software-identification fields.

Other hidden objects, custom metadata, comments and attachments require separate inspection.

Frequently asked questions

The details, when you need them.

Will the visible title on the page change?

No. Metadata properties are separate from text drawn on the pages.

Does cleanup remove every hidden detail?

No. This tool edits common properties and clears selected fields; it is not a complete metadata sanitizer.

Make document properties useful

A descriptive title can be more helpful than a filename made of codes. Use the author field for the appropriate person or organization, and a short subject to describe the contents. These properties do not change the visible text on the PDF pages or guarantee how a search engine will display the document.

Metadata cleanup has limits

The extra cleanup option clears the creator and producer fields handled by this implementation. It is not a complete privacy scrub of all possible PDF metadata, embedded files, annotations or document history. Review sensitive documents using a broader inspection workflow before distributing them. Changing properties also does not redact names printed on pages.

Properties are not complete sanitization

These fields do not sanitize all hidden data, attachments, annotations or visible author names. PDF keywords are not webpage SEO keywords.

An old author name remains visible

Page text and other PDF objects are independent of the document properties fields. Inspect visible pages, comments and attachments separately; metadata editing is not sanitization.
