The details, when you need them.
Can every broken PDF be repaired?
No. Missing content or severe corruption may prevent recovery.
Will recovered text stay selectable?
Structural recovery can retain text. The fallback rebuilds pages as images.
What repair can recover
Some PDFs contain readable page data but have a broken structure around it. A structural rebuild copies those pages into a fresh document. If that fails but the browser can still render the file, page-by-page recovery saves the visible pages as images. The result message tells you which approach succeeded.
When a new copy is needed
Repair cannot recreate missing bytes or reconstruct content that neither parser can read. A truncated download may need to be downloaded again. Image-based recovery removes selectable text and interactive elements, so keep the damaged original until you have checked the output. If the recovered pages are scans, OCR may help make their text searchable.
Recovery cannot recreate missing content
Recovery depends on parsable surviving content and cannot restore missing bytes.
Repair also fails
Both structural parsing and page rendering may fail. Obtain another source copy or export again from the original application.
