Clear standard document properties and the XMP metadata stream
Remove routine software and author properties from a copy
A public report carries an internal author name in document properties and a separate visible credit line on its cover. Clear common metadata and inspect properties in another reader. The cover credit remains visible, so handle it in the authoring source if it must change. Check attachments and comments separately.
✓ Inspect properties in another PDF reader and use PDF information. Also review visible content and attachments because cleared standard properties do not prove complete privacy.Frequently asked questions
The details, when you need them.
Does this delete visible author names?
No. Names written on a page are page content, not metadata.
Is this a complete privacy scrub?
No. This removes common metadata references. Original metadata streams and other private objects can remain recoverable; it is not a secure scrub.
Clear common descriptive information
Standard metadata can contain titles, authors, subjects, keywords and software names. XMP can contain additional descriptive properties. This tool removes the common document information reference and page/document XMP entries before saving. Other PDF readers may still display information they infer from the file itself. Removing a reference does not establish that the original stream bytes have been erased from every saved object.
Use a broader review for sensitive files
Clearing metadata does not remove names printed on pages, annotations, attachments, every nested object or all possible private data. It is not a certified sanitization process. Review visible content and embedded files separately when preparing a document for disclosure. Keep the source if its descriptive information is needed for records.

Common property removal is not sanitization
This clears common metadata references, not every stored object. Original metadata stream bytes can remain recoverable in the saved PDF. Visible names, attachments and other private objects can also remain.
The author name still appears on the page
Visible lettering is page content, not metadata. Change the authoring source or use a verified removal workflow.
