Freeze completed questionnaire fields

A completed questionnaire should display filled values consistently in another reader. Save a flattened copy after completing the form. Complete the source form first and save it separately. Flatten the copy, then check multiline responses and checkbox appearances in another viewer.

✓ Open in a second reader; check every value, checkbox and multiline field before keeping the result.

Save a separate original if values may need to be changed. Unsupported annotation types may remain.

Frequently asked questions

The details, when you need them.

Does flattening make a PDF impossible to edit?

No. It removes supported interactive fields, but ordinary page content may still be edited with other software.

Should I keep the fillable version?

Yes. Keep a source copy if you may need to change the answers later.

Use flattening after completing a form

Fillable fields can appear differently across PDF viewers. Flattening supported fields places their appearance onto the page and removes their form controls. Save an editable source copy before flattening if you may need to revise answers later. Check checkboxes, long text fields and any fields using unusual fonts.

Know what flattening does not do

This tool targets PDF form fields. It does not promise to flatten every annotation or every kind of dynamic form. It also does not stop someone from editing ordinary page content in a PDF editor. If no supported fields are found, the tool reports that no fields were flattened.

Form flattening does not prevent editing

Flattening fields is not password protection. It does not guarantee every annotation type is converted or prevent general PDF editing.

A field value disappears

Unsupported field appearances or viewer-specific rendering can affect flattening. Keep the original and compare the result in another reader. Do not distribute a copy with missing values.
