Common questions

Do I get an AVIF file back?

Yes. This page accepts still AVIF images and uses an AVIF encoder for the output. It does not rename a JPG or WebP file to AVIF.

Why can AVIF compression take longer?

AVIF encoding can use more processing time than JPG or WebP. It runs in a background worker on your device. The result shows the elapsed time, including any first-use encoder download.

What are the AVIF limits?

Select up to 100 images per batch, or one audio or video file per job. There is no fixed file-size or processing-time quota. Available memory, browser support and your device determine what can be processed. Large batches offer individual downloads to avoid an additional ZIP copy.

Does the result preserve every AVIF feature?

The output is a still, 8-bit image. Do not use this tool when you need to preserve HDR, higher bit depth, animation or original metadata. Keep the original file.

Why did my AVIF not get smaller?

AVIF may already be compressed well. We compare the new encoding with the original and keep the original if it is the same size or smaller. Try the Smaller setting if more quality loss is acceptable.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Compression runs in your browser. Encoder files may be downloaded from this website, but your selected images are not uploaded.
